Created in 2006, it was minted in response to a growing demand for smaller fractional sizes that could be used more conveniently for trade and barter, especially with fluctuating silver prices. Its creation was a direct answer to those who found larger denominations less practical for everyday transactions. There were more limited 1/4 pieces minted, such as the 2007 Silver Dalas and Gold Layered Dalas, though these are rare.
