CryptoDollar

The 2018 Liberty CryptoDollar is one of the rare non-Liberty Dollar projects licensed by Bernard von NotHaus. Its design features the “Lady Liberty” image, originally sculpted by Luigi Badia for the Liberty Dollar. The obverse was created using an epoxy mold derived from Badia’s original plaster, making it instantly recognizable to those familiar with the Liberty Dollar.

As part of the “Bitcoin Specie” series, the Liberty CryptoDollar was designed to raise awareness of alternative currencies. A QR code on the reverse allows users to check the real-time value of one ounce of silver against various cryptocurrencies, including BTC, ETH, DASH, XMR, DOGE, and traditional currencies.

After 300 individually numbered proofs were produced, 700 proof-like brilliant uncirculated rounds were struck, though these were not numbered. The dies were then sandblasted, and a larger run of frosted brilliant uncirculated rounds was produced for wider distribution. Unlike physical bitcoins, these coins do not function as wallets or store cryptocurrency but rather reflect the real-time value of the silver they contain.

The 2018 Liberty CryptoDollar was produced in several varieties with different mintages, and there were some minor variations in the reverse finishes:

Serial Numbered Proofs: A limited edition of 300 individually numbered coins (numbered 001–300) were created for this series. Numbers 1-100 were the Bitcoin Specie and numbers 101-300 were the Altcoin Specie.
Proof-like (Brilliant Uncirculated) Version: 700 were struck in a near-mint, shiny finish before the dies were sandblasted, making this variety proof-like but not individually numbered.
Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Satin Version: This variety was mass-produced until the dies wore out and were intended for broader distribution at a more affordable price. These were not individually numbered and were offered at a slight premium over the spot price of silver.
